Tax treatment of rental income

I am thinking of buying a primary residency for the first time that could be split into rental apartments. I want to know what is the tax treatment that the proceeds from renting the units will have.

Rental income is, well income. I do know that there are some rules that differ depending on you living or in the unit. I would suggest consulting a tax accountant
